Our anticipated workshop on interpreting the history of slavery at Connecticut museums and historic sites is now a two-part Zoom program. Part I (October 16) will focus on museums and Part II (October 23) will focus on the classroom.

Learn how different history organizations are working to educate their visitors about the history of slavery in Connecticut. You'll hear about the successes and challenges of projects going on across the state, and have the opportunity to brainstorm how you could bring these ideas into your own site. If possible, bring a partner from your organization so you can share ideas.

Part I: In the Museum

  • Researching local histories of slavery for an exhibition (Ramin Ganeshram, Westport Museum for History and Culture)
  • Shifting interpretation in museum education programs (Melissa Houston, Keeler Tavern Museum)
  • Group discussion; resources for research and programming
