Colleague Circles - Conversations with CLHO

Teachers and local history institutions have a lot of common goals, and with online learning taking center stage these days, it's more important than ever for museums and schools to work together. During this session, experienced teachers and museum educators will share strategies for fostering greater collaboration between historical institutions and schools.

We'll discuss how some schools in the state managed to work more closely with museums during the period of online learning. We'll also talk about the inquiry process, which strongly encourages student analysis of primary source materials, and has the potential to greatly enhance teacher/museum collaboration. And we'll encourage participation and conversation from all attendees about their experiences.

Participants:

  • Stephen Armstrong, Social Studies Consultant, Connecticut State Department of Education
  • Allison Norrie, Teacher, Andrew Warde High School, Fairfield
  • David Rau, Director of Education and Outreach, Florence Griswold Museum
  • Anthony Roy, President, Connecticut Council for the Social Studies
  • Sally Whipple, Executive Director, Connecticut Democracy Center, The Old State House
