Is your heritage organization run by volunteers? If so, you are welcome to join in the discussion at the CLHO's Colleague Circle for All-Volunteer History Organizations! The special topic for this meeting will be an idea share and demonstration of simply and effective methods to make the exhibits and displays in your museum really pop.

Rocky Hill Historical Society, 785 Old Main St. Rocky Hill

Monday, December 5, 2016

10 am to noon

Registration is strongly encouraged. Free!

Does your organization struggle with any of these questions?

  • Our exhibit labels are really getting dingy and grey. How can we improve them?
  • Someone complained that they couldn't read the tiny font on our exhibit labels, what should we do?
  • Our exhibit cases look very flat. It's pretty boring, help?
  • We've got these historic clothes, but they don't fit on regular mannequins?
  • We want hands-on activities, but there isn't money for computer programs?

At this meeting, the group will share techniques that group members have used to build more interesting displays that are effective and inexpensive. If you have something that you'd like to share, please note it when you register. Feel free to bring examples (or photographs) of anything that you have used that is portable for a show and tell. We'll spend about an hour on this discussion, with a half-hour to plan the next meeting and to address timely concerns.

The discussion agenda for future meetings is set by the group, and facilitated by the host organization and CLHO staff and board members. Refreshments will be provided, and conversation will be lively. All attendees are invited to stay for a tour of the museum after the meeting. You may even bring a brown-bag lunch and stick around for further informal discussion.

This is your opportunity to meet people who face the same joys and challenges that you face every day as a leader and volunteer. We hope you can join the discussion and learn in an informal, collegial atmosphere.
